FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1)    How many ECTS credits can I take in a semester?
In four-year programs, students can take courses with a maximum of 30 ECTS credits in the first, second, third, and fourth semesters and a maximum of 40 ECTS credits starting from the fifth semester. Courses taken by students from other universities are also included in these limitations.

2)    In how many years should I complete the program?
Students have to complete their undergraduate programs in a maximum of seven years, regardless of whether they register for each semester, except for one year of foreign language preparatory class.

3)    Which courses do I have to complete in order to graduate?
Students must successfully complete the common compulsory courses, compulsory courses in the field, and elective courses in and out of the field.

4)    What are the common compulsory courses?
Turkish Language (TKD104, TKD104), Atatürk's Principles and History of Turkish Revolution (AIT203, AIT204), and Basic Information and Communication Technologies (BEB650) are common compulsory courses in all higher education programs.

5)    What are ING111, ING112, ING211 and ING212 among the compulsory courses? Can I be exempt from these courses?
ING-coded courses are courses in programs whose medium of instruction is 100% English and aim to improve students' English language and expression skills. They are offered by the School of Foreign Languages (SFL). You can visit www.ydyo.hacettepe.edu.tr for details such as prerequisites, exemptions, and passing grades.

6)    Which courses are compulsory?
Courses with M (in Turkish "Z") in the undergraduate curriculum of the Department of Business Administration.

7)   What do in-field and out-of-field elective courses mean?
a)    In-field elective courses are the courses that the student will take by selecting from among certain courses or course groups in the curricula in which the student is enrolled and recommended for graduation. They are indicated with an E (in Turkish "S") in the undergraduate curriculum of the Department of Business Administration. Quotas for elective courses may be limited. During the registration and add-drop period, the quota of the elective course you want to take may be full. In this case, you can take another elective course. However, in case of a compulsory situation such as course conflicts, inability to graduate, etc., you can apply to your advisor.
b)    Out-of-field elective courses are courses that are not included in the curriculum in which the student is enrolled but are offered by different academic units. In order for out-of-field elective courses to count towards graduation credits, the language of instruction must be English or another foreign language. For detailed information and announcements about out-of-field elective courses, please visit //www.secmeli.hacettepe.edu.tr/.

8)    How many ECTS credits do I need to complete to graduate?
In order to graduate from the Department of Business Administration, students must earn a total of 240 ECTS credits, of which 160 ECTS credits are from compulsory courses and 80 ECTS credits are from elective courses (maximum of 10 ECTS credits from elective courses outside the field). In other words, students are required to complete at least 70 ECTS in-field elective courses. If the student does not want to take out-of-field credits, he/she can complete these 10 ECTS (regardless of 3rd or 4th grade) from within the field.

9)    How can I take courses from other universities?
Students who want to take courses from other universities apply to their department for equivalency before the semester starts. The relevant board decides on the equivalence of any course. The grades of the courses taken with the decision of the relevant board of directors are recorded in the transcript until the end of the course registration renewal days of the next semester.

10)    Is it compulsory to attend the program?
Attendance to courses and practices is compulsory. Students who do not attend more than 30% of the theoretical hours, including excuses, are not taken to the general and make-up exams of that course. The list of those who are not entitled to take the exam due to their absences is announced by the instructor responsible for the relevant course before the general exam period. In repeated theoretical courses, if the attendance requirement has been fulfilled in the previous semesters, the attendance requirement is not required.

11)    What should be the effect of the final exam (General exam) on the success grade?
The effect of the general exam on the course success grade can be at least 40% and at most 60%. The effects of the semester success and the general exam on the course success grade and the minimum grade that the student must get in the general exam in order to be considered successful and the application plan of the course is announced to the students at the beginning of the semester by the instructor responsible for the course.

12) Is the grade I get from the make-up exam evaluated together with my semester grades?
Make-up exam results are evaluated together with the student's semester grades.

13) Can I retake the compulsory course I failed at any time?
Students are required to repeat the failed compulsory course in the first semester in which the course is offered if they register for the semester and must succeed until graduation.

14) What can I do about the elective course I failed, can I take another elective course instead or can I remove it from my record?
Students may repeat the failed elective course in any semester in which the course is offered. Students who do not want to take this elective course again have the right to withdraw from the course. An abandoned elective course cannot be taken again, but it continues to appear on the transcript. The student can give up a maximum of three elective courses in this way during his/her education. Graduating students who have used their right to withdraw and have failed an elective course may take another elective course instead of an elective course they have failed with the decision of the relevant board of directors. The student can benefit from this right only once. If the number of failed elective courses is more than one and these courses have not been offered in the last two semesters, these failed elective courses can be deleted from the graduating students with the decision of the relevant board of directors.

15) Under which conditions can I retake the courses that I have been successful in order to increase my overall academic average?
Students may repeat courses that they have previously taken and have been deemed successful (except A1 and A2 grades) in order to increase their general academic average. The most recent grade is valid for repeated courses.

16) How many types of exams are there? Is it compulsory to have a midterm exam?
Exams are of six types: midterm exam, general exam, exemption exam, three-course exam, make-up exam, and make-up exam. These exams can be written, oral, or both written, oral, and/or practical. At least one midterm exam is required for each course.

17) Are there exams on Saturday and Sunday?
If deemed necessary, exams can be held on Saturdays and Sundays except national and religious holidays with the decision of the relevant board of directors.

18) When are the exemption exams held?
Exemption exams are held at the beginning of each semester for the courses determined by the Senate upon the recommendation of the relevant boards. Students can take these exams at the beginning of the semester in which they take the courses for the first time. Students benefit from this right once for each course. Exemption exam results are announced by the relevant unit. When a student is successful in the exemption exam, his/her grade must be recorded on the transcript by the Registrar's Office. Therefore, the student can delete the course that he/she has been successful in the exemption exam during "add-delete".

19) What are the conditions for taking the three-course exam?
Students who fulfill the attendance requirement for graduation until the end of the maximum period of study and have a maximum of three failed courses remaining can take the three-course exam. Students who are successful in all courses of the program they are enrolled in, but cannot graduate because their overall academic average is below 2.00, can also take the three-course exam from a maximum of three courses they wish. Students who want to benefit from these exams should apply to their academic units (The relevant petition is available on the website of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and should be filled in by the student on the computer and then forwarded to the advisor. The student must fill out the petition completely (indicating his/her name, surname, student number, and the last grade and semester of the course). If the last grade of the course is in the form of "the 20XX-20XX Fall-Spring Make-up" Exam Grade, this semester should be written clearly.) use this right. Triple course exams are held on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Exam results are notified to the Registrar's Office by the relevant board of directors. Students who use their three-course exam rights cannot benefit from student rights.

In other words, students are required to complete at least 70 ECTS in-field elective courses. If the student does not want to take out-of-field credits, he/she can complete these 10 ECTS (regardless of 3rd or 4th grade) from within the field.
